long legs

modern toy
Here's a new modern toy. This one's going to Lisa Solomon in a swaperoo. I was inspired by the colors in Lisa's recent work. Isn't it a thoroughly modern toy?

Do you guys like Jonathan Richman? Whenever I use the word "modern", I think of him. In his song "Modern World", he sings:

"Well listen
Well the modern world is not so bad
Not like the students say
In fact I'd be in heaven
If you'd share the modern world with me"

This is what comes to mind when I think about "modern". Also, the Eameses.

Someday, somebody's going to love you, baby -
Skinny legs and all!

That day must be today - what a cutie!

And you do realize that I will now be humming "You're Crazy for Taking the Bus"* for the rest of the day.
My friends and family thank you in advance....

*Well, I'm crazy, so what's the fuss?

You know, this little stripey dude's expression kind of reminds me of how Jonathan Richman looks when he's singing, the soulfully upturned face.

We used to see him singing at Doc's Clock in the Mission sometimes, though he'd always creep away as soon as it got busy. Unfortunately I wasn't too familiar with him at the time so I didn't really appreciate it, but I've since started listening to him more, and now that we live in Boston we enjoy singing location-appropriate Jonathan songs every chance we get. "Already been to Paris, already been to Rome ..."

Jonathan Richman . . . siiiiigh . . . the first thing my husband ever gave me, back before our first date in high school, back when I had a crush on him, was a cassette he made of Jonathan Richman songs. That was 25 years ago.

Tender memoires!
