squirrel costume
Okay, so here's June, a human in a squirrel costume. She wears this costume because she lives among the squirrels. Squirrel Ghost is her pal, and helps her out. He teaches her about squirrel culture and society, etc. I enjoy creating little characters, whether in drawings or as toys, but up to this point I have been reluctant to give them backstories or even names. I think I wanted to leave that up to the person looking at the drawing or the toy. Also, I feel pretty comfortable with the visual stuff at this point, while creative writing and story-telling is way more difficult for me. But with June and Squirrel Ghost I've had such a good time figuring out what they're all about. I've even sketched out a few small comic strips dealing with their adventures in the squirrel world and the human world, which I hope to share at some point. Woo!
I'll keep posting these drawings while I continue to plan for future projects, including more toys. This is fun, thanks for all the kind comments!

When are you going to sell pictures or tshirts?
love the squirrel ghost and june!
I did some work in the rare books department at my university + we would have artist book exhibits. One show was a series of wax incased books which were initially beautiful, but as the director put it "one trick ponies."
It can be a challenge creating a seemingly simple piece, but a piece that someone will enjoy for a period of time. Your pieces are wonderful (+ I am still loving the frames) + whereas the above example does not apply to what you create, the back story makes each "character" more rich and interesting. Please continue.
i sense a story coming on here. love june in squirrel suit!
I love June and I'm glad you're having fun.
I'd love to hear more about adventures in the squirrel world!
Dear lord those are cute! I have such a soft spot for squirrels, too. I can't wait to see these as toys.
I can't complain about anything done with squirrels, this is awesome!
Very cool stuff. Love your site as well.
