mr. toast

Dan Goodsell, whose Taschen Icons book Krazy Kids' Food is an indispensable source of inspiration for me (and which I wrote about here), liked my photos and asked me to take some of the toy incarnation of his character Mr. Toast. How could I refuse? Here's the result. This a corner of my kitchen - Mr. Toast seems to be running through on his way to something important. Mr. Toast's comic strip adventures can be found here. This is a current fave.
But don't stop there, Dan Goodsell's website is a treasure trove for sure. There's his collection of kid's food packaging, vintage photos of Disneyland, an exhaustive catalog of themed kids' parks (you've got to check these out) and other pop culture nuttery; his blog; and his art, including the aforementioned comics.
Thanks Dan! That was fun.

Thanks for all the great Dan Goodsell links!
I was familiar with Mr Toast, on whom I check in from time to time - but I had no idea about the kid's food packaging, etc! I suspect that I know where I'm going to be prowling for the next few hours.....
Appreciate the "introduction"!
I love your salt and pepper shakers. I have a pair almost exactly the same but mine are about an inch taller (making the top chimney end longer). One was broken a few years ago and the glaze is cracking of the other so they live in the cupboard. But, I'm always on the lookout for another pair.
Mr. Toast sorta looks like he is running for his life! Most likely from a hungry belly...
oh, that is so adorable! great picture.
and thanks for the links, too.
Hee! Mr. Toast looks like he's sleepwalking through the kitchen, looking for a midnight snack.
Look out for the runaway toast...Mr. Toast sure is cute!
ooh i have missed a few juicy posts! i love this! i am always amazed at how you get little guys to stand up and do things...
magic touch!
Does this mean that Mr. Toast runs around in our apartment when we're at work? How does he get on with the cat?
I Love this picture!!
HAH!
Mr. Toast looks like he fell off the table through the secret trapdoor. I can hear him saying (in some unoriginal Mr. Bill/Mr. Hankey type high-pitched voice):
"Oooohhh noooo! Get me back up there quick so I can be slathered with tasty preserves!"
This such a fun picture! All of the colors really play off of each other well. And your kitchen is darling!
I must quote Mr. Pepper from Blue's Clues when I remind you that, (install French accent here) "Toast iz ze most!"
I think he must've met Mr. Toast. I'm so glad that I have, too!
Thanks for the fun post!
Mr. Toast is coolio...
Mr. Toast looks like he's wandered in from an episode of Milk and Cheese ("Dairy Products Gone Bad!"). Perhaps he's hiding from them. Drunken meanies that they are.
Loving your Mr.Toast
by the way that corner of your kitchen is very kewl!
I jus lur-ve tha inner leg of tha chair nearest to the camera (left-hand side, not right hand side) - it is ker-azy, kewl, n' well sharp too -ai?
